How to Choose Bedsheets: Thread Count, Material and Size

Material matters most

The fabric decides how a sheet feels and breathes. Cotton is the everyday favourite — soft, breathable and durable, ideal for India’s climate. Cotton-rich blends resist wrinkles and cost less. Linen is breathable and gets softer with age, great for hot weather. Choose breathable fabrics for our warm nights.

Understand thread count (don’t be fooled by it)

Thread count is the number of threads per square inch. A higher count can feel softer — but only up to a point, and only with quality cotton. A genuine 200–400 count of good cotton beats an inflated “1000+” of poor fibre. Treat very high numbers with suspicion.

Get the size right

Match the sheet to your mattress — single, double, queen or king — and check the mattress depth too. Deep mattresses need fitted sheets with deeper pockets, or the corners won’t stay put.

Weave changes the feel

  • Percale: crisp, cool and breathable — great for hot sleepers.
  • Sateen: smooth, silky and slightly warmer — a more luxe feel.

Check the finish and stitching

Good sheets have neat, secure stitching and stay colourfast after washing. Run your hand over the fabric — quality cotton feels soft and substantial, not thin or papery.

Buy a set you can refresh

Two sets in rotation last longer than one washed constantly. Choose colours you can mix and match as you add to them.
